Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)
الكربون النشط الحبيبي GAC
Product Description
Where free chlorine, taste, odor or dissolved organics affect RO membranes and product water, DSTC supplies activated carbon media matched to the treatment duty. Available as refill media or as part of a complete carbon filter package with FRP or steel vessels, support media, valves, and sizing support.
For quotation, send water analysis, flow rate, existing filter size, required quantity, target use, and delivery city.
Overview
Activated carbon removes many water contaminants through adsorption. As water passes through the carbon bed, dissolved organics and compounds that cause bad taste, odor, and color attach to the internal surface of the carbon. Free chlorine is also removed through reaction with the carbon, which makes GAC a common pretreatment stage before RO membranes. DSTC supplies coconut shell and coal-based activated carbon for water treatment plants in Saudi Arabia, and can recommend the right grade based on water analysis, chlorine load, flow rate, empty bed contact time, and target outlet quality.
Applications

Product Summary
Granular activated carbon (GAC) is a filter media used for dechlorination, taste and odor removal, organic reduction and final water polishing before or after RO. It is selected by carbon source, iodine number, mesh size, contact time and target contaminant.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does activated carbon remove from water?+
Activated carbon removes free chlorine, taste, odor, color, and many dissolved organic compounds. It does not remove dissolved salts or hardness; those usually require RO, softening, or ion exchange.
Is activated carbon needed before RO systems?+
Yes, when free chlorine is present. Carbon filtration helps protect thin-film RO membranes from chlorine oxidation before water reaches the membrane elements.
Coconut shell or coal-based carbon, which is better?+
Coconut shell carbon is usually preferred for fine polishing and taste and odor control. Coal-based carbon is often selected when the organic load is higher or the contaminant mix is broader. DSTC recommends the grade based on water quality and process target.
How often should activated carbon be replaced?+
Replacement is required when the carbon becomes exhausted, usually shown by chlorine, odor, color, or organics appearing at the outlet. The interval depends on carbon grade, bed depth, flow rate, and contaminant load.
Can DSTC supply the carbon with the filter vessel?+
Yes. DSTC can supply activated carbon as refill media or as a complete carbon filter package with vessel, support media, valves, and sizing for the required flow.
